John is on the cover of the biggest Serbian newspaper today.

John in BlicIt was quite unexpected to see John at the front page of Blic today, especially with the news that went with it. Here’s a photo of the front page and a (horrible) English translation of the article. Later today I will properly and professionally translate the whole article, scan the paper version and look if any other newspaper of web service has more news on this; as I have to hurry now. Please, everyone, don’t panic. Since the next shows are being played, he’s obviously OK.

Concert shorter due to health problem of the guitarist
Immediately after Red Hot Chili Peppers’ concert in Indjija people started speculating as to why the concert lasted an hour and twenty minutes only. According to previous announcements the audience expected much longer concert. One of the concert organizers claims that the concert was shorter than it should have been because one of the Peppers, guitar man John Frusciante, was physically unable to play longer.
‘We were informed to provide an oxygen bottle in the back stage since their guitar man was not feeling well. In spite of that fact the Peppers made an effort to came and perform in Serbia’, Bojan Boskovic, ‘Exit’ general manager says for ‘Blic’.

Inđija, Serbia - 26th June 2007…my first impressions

22:05:53 CET | Viewed 998 times | 5 comments

I received at least 30 emails with questions what exactly happened at the Green Fest. I will have a whole review; also numerous photos and videos I’ve taken, but, to cut the long story short….

The show was NOT shortened only because of John. He did look a bit nauseated and dizzy, but with the mad weather (40 degrees, two cold rain showers, temperature lowering to about 25 degrees, going back up, strong winds, a thunderstorm after the show), it’s completely human a person was feeling like that. The show was shortened for two songs, which were supposed to be C’mon Girl and Under The Bridge, and the intro jam for Californication and end jam after give it away. The real fans, who were mostly in the front where I was were great, amazing, enthusiastic and loud. People who threw bottles when it was over were mostly idiots and skinheads who came to see their band that performed first at the festival.

By the way, John was incredible. It brought a tear to my eye to see him do the same jam as on the Hullabaloo and the same magical outro to Don’t Forget Me like he did in Albany last year; right here, in my own country, just 45 km from the city I live in, in front of the crowd consisting of people from countries that separated with blood and pain. I was in the 1.5th row (seriously, not really front row, not really 2nd either) and I can tell you he was smiling and that he was giving the best of himself even when he was feeling dizzy as the end of the show and the thunderstorm were approaching.

Here’s the setlist. Expect review, photos and media VERY soon.

01 Intro
02 Can’t stop
03 Dani California
04 Scar Tissue
05 Short jam
06 Charlie
07 Readymade
08 Throw Away Your Television w/ Don’t You Ever Leave
09 Snow
10 SOS (John’s solo)
11 Higher Ground
12 She’s Only 18
13 Right On Time (w/ London Calling intro)
14 Don’t Forget Me
15 Californication
16 Flea solo (unknown)
17 By The Way

Encore:
18 Give It Away

This is the setlist that was shortened, the band was supposed to play two more songs and, obviously, intro to Californication and outro after Give It Away.

All of us who went to Inđija together, had an amazing adventure and camped from six in the morning to come back to our rented house in the middle of a thunderstorm at 2 next morning (that’s 21 hours spent outside, as it took one hour to get to the actual concert place) had a good time, with some minor problems and we all hope that John is fine. And all together, we would like to apologise for the idiots throwing the water bottles after the show was over. The organiser should’ve never given bottled water to people as it’s a serious safety issue (even though yes, we wouldn’t survive without water and it was free!) and the people making trouble were mostly casual fans and those who went to the show out of curiosity.

I am thankful I saw John and RHCP play in my country. The most of other people are, too; they’re just getting over the initial shock!
