RHCP performed for the US democrats again…

14:00:05 CET | Viewed 691 times | Comments Off

Red Hot Chili Peppers performed at one more US democrats’ convention, this time in Santa Monica last night.

Here’s the snippet of the article from Daily Bruin:

A mini-demographic shift then took place as the sound of Flea’s bass guitar drove some of the audience’s older members away and brought the younger members toward the stage. Lead singer Anthony Kiedis came on stage wearing a vintage Super Bowl T-shirt, which he promptly removed before the end of the first song. The band played a variety of songs, including two new ones. A touching moment occurred when Flea, the bass player, commented that Clinton had “pretty eyes,” to which Kiedis responded, “So do you, Flea.”
The concert portion ended with the band’s signature hit, “Under the Bridge.”

DISCLAIMER: Just to make it clear…your webmaster hates politics and usage of entertainers to gain votes, though people do that in her own country as well…blah. I might love the band as I do, but I barf at things like this.

Esquire House benefit

0:20:03 CET | Viewed 772 times | Comments Off

Beverly Hills rocked Thursday night as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Perry Farrell played a backyard party at Esquire House to raise funds for both the Autism Coalition and Surfers Healing, a non-profit that teaches autistic children to surf.
Surfers Healing founders Danielle and Israel Paskowitz had brought out the star power. “I’m a dear friend of the Paskowitz family, and a surfer from way back,” Farrell said before spinning a set as his alterego, DJ Peretz. Farrell also performed two Jane’s Addiction songs, “My Time” with Flea and John Frusciante, and “Oceanside” with Flea and Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt.

The luau-themed benefit, for which fans paid $250 a head to hang at the ultra-exclusive venue, an estate set up by Esquire magazine for events in L.A. through the end of the year, afforded an intimate performance setting. Among those on hand to watch the festivities were rockers Rob Zombie, Pete Yorn, Mark McGrath and Dweezil Zappa, as well as model Molly Sims and comedian Chris Kattan.

After Farrell, the Chilis took the tiny stage and played an eclectic thirty-minute set, going all the way back to 1983 for the opening selection “Out in L.A.” “That song’s older than you,” Flea said before the band launched into a cover of the Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated.” The Chilis also performed an untitled, up-tempo new song.

Other highlights included Frusciante singing a snippet of Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer,” the more low-key “Around the World” and moving renditions of “Don’t Forget Me” off of By the Way and Blood Sugar Sex Magik’s “Could Have Lied.”

On show in Boston…

Thanks to Universally Speaking!

BOSTON — A little rain couldn’t dampen the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band completely rocked Wednesday night in a concert sponsored by The Creative Coalition and the Recording Industry Association of America — easily the biggest and best party so far during the Democratic National Convention.

While everyone else in attendance had the upcoming presidential election in mind, the Los Angeles-based band made only a couple of vague political statements.

“The next four years in this country can be a more peaceful world,” said bassist Flea, typically shirtless and sinewy on a stage erected outside the upscale Louis Boston clothing store.

“Do what you gotta do,” lead singer Anthony Kiedis said at the end of the band’s set. No matter — the Chili Peppers let their music speak for them, and the coat-and-tied crowd responded, despite an intermittent drizzle.

Actor and director Tony Goldwyn, co-president of The Creative Coalition — a political advocacy group made up of members of the entertainment industry — said the Red Hot Chili Peppers were a natural choice for the show “because they’re fantastic, and everybody wants to come see them and we love their music.”

The foursome played mostly new songs — including “Scar Tissue,” “By the Way” and “Californication” — but they finished off the night with their best-known hit from the early ’90s, “Give It Away.”
