John is on the cover of next month’s Total Guitar which will be out on April 6th. The pic is older, but there could be newer ones inside and there must be some nice article, since he’s on the cover. So, watch out for it.

Billie Joe Armstrong is a John fan

15:25:11 CET | Viewed 492 times | Comments Off

(Thanks to funkymonkeygirl from OHG forums)

In the February issue of Guitar Player, Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day singer/guitarist, talks about style, influence, direction, etc.

Do you rely on any specific influences?
I go for the classics-anything from the Beatles to Social Distortion. Specifically regarding guitarists, I love Steve Jones and Johnny Ramone, and I also love John Frusciante.

Two new articles

Yup, Happy New Year 2005, if there’s anything to wish after such a disastrous ending to 2004. Anyway..

John is featured in two magazines and thanks to peacefield and mko from Ramparts forum, here are the rough scans.

Some of you might recognise the pictures, they’re from Ross Halfin’s site, the photoshoot took place sometime a year ago..from that moment John has been a bit bitter about Tom Morello. Repeating, the photos are one year old.

The article is in Japanese and I am looking for a translator. If there’s a site visitor who’s fluent in Japanese, please do email me at iva@invisible-movement.net and you could make many of the fellow fans happy.

John on one of Rolling Stone critic’s top 10 for 2004

23:47:03 CET | Viewed 933 times | 1 comment

Here is a bunch of lists made by Rolling Stone’s critics who were choosing their top ten albums of the year. One of them, named Rob O’Connor put John on his list…twice!

4. Ataxia, Automatic Writing (Record Collection): This is what you get when you lock the Chili Peppers’ John Frusciante in a room after a night of listening to Nineties German Krautrock.

7. John Frusciante, Shadows Collide With People (Warner Bros.): As a solo act, Frusciante can do anything, and he’s determined to do just that as he dances from genre to genre.

John on one of his favourite 2004 albums…

14:46:26 CET | Viewed 610 times | Comments Off

In a recent magazine article, John reveled which was one of his favourite albums released in 2004. He also mentioned one which is yet to be released.

“The Björk album,Medulla, really astoundsme:the things she is doing with vocals - there’s never been anything like it on a pop record. She’s doing whole songs that have so much in common with 12 tone Syrian music and very little in common with anything else in the rock music section. Not only that but the way she recorded - having all the people in the same room atthe same time - that’s just not the way people make records. She’s a real thinker, and a conceptualist, and obviously it goes without saying that the quality of her voice is remarkable. I am a student of Harmonies: I focus on the backing vocals all the time and everything on the record ia a voice. Some of the stuff on this album is just from outter space. The other thing will irritate you, because it’s not out til next year, but the next MARS VOLTA record, Frances the mute, is amazing. It has the shortest song they’ve ever done - a three and a half minute song - and it has a 32 minute song. That 32 minute song is just a thing of so much vision. Omar just had the whole album in his head. It’s like an 80 minute album and it goes through all kinds of changes, lots of surprises. I am just blown away that I know someone who made an album like this. ”

You can hear samples of Björk’s album here.

13th best album of 2004

13:41:02 CET | Viewed 612 times | Comments Off

According to Empyre Lounge website, John’s errrr…bunch of albums is the 13th best album (in this case “are the 13th best albums…if that makes any sense) of the year 2004. Yay:)

Here’s what it says:

The great guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers stepped out on his own in 2004, and brought a new CD a month for the final 6 or 7 months of 2004. All the discs showcase Frusciante as a dedicated songwriter and really how much influence he has had on the current Chili Peppers sound. Frusciante shows he is a rare musician that is able keep place in one of the biggest bands in the world but equally as strong on his own.
Best Songs: “Carvel,” “Omission,” & “Inside a Break”
