Bits and bites, part two

20:15:36 CET | Viewed 790 times | 3 comments

Another band that (almost) swears by John
Members of Here Is There, a band from Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA stated in an interview that John is their biggest idol and influence.

Here Is There’s influences include David Bowie, The Strokes, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and especially John Frusciante. “He is God,” Chris said. “I want some kid to listen to us like the way that I listen to John Frusciante.”

RHCP’s Navarro episode on the list of worst career reinventions ever
The popular website publishing various, semi-humorous and more often sarcastic lists of this and that, considers RHCP’s excursion in the dark and experimental waters with Dave Navarro to be one of the fifteen worst career reinventions in music. As a bizzare coincidence, the piece was written by the writer/comedian John Frusciante, who should NOT be confused with the John Frusciante this site is about. Now read the previous sentence once again.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers had turned some heads with the innovative funky, rap-rock blend of Blood Sugar Sex Magik. They hoped to keep turning those heads until they snapped right off with 1995’s One Hot Minute. Their recording process reads like a “how to” guide for great bands who want to make sure they never sell another album.

Click here and scroll down to number five to read the rest, as it might be too offensive for some.

*Thanks for the second bit goes to Filip.

Invisible-Movement.net is on MySpace

17:48:57 CET | Viewed 658 times | 4 comments

I have (finally) made a page for Invisible-Movement.net on MySpace.
Here it is, add it to your friends. And don’t worry, it won’t be one of the pages cluttering your bulletin board and friends’ updates section ten thousand times a day.

Currently, I’m in the process of looking for a band whose music will be on I-M.net’s MySpace as a default profile song during February 2008. It’s first come, first serve so…drop me a line over there or here. Oh yes, and, for now, those who have been featured on the site playlist aren’t eligible for this; but they will be in future.

An update…containing something shown earlier this week on TV in USA

22:51:49 CET | Viewed 849 times | Comments Off

As you might have noticed, there was no playlist update on Wednesday. I decided to keep this one for one more week and focus on re-uploading some important stuff. But don’t worry, there will be a new playlist on 30th January and, for now, here’s quite a large update, containing some material from the Johnny Ramone tribute, with a very nice John interview…oh yes, that one will be on the playlist on Wednesday as well, for those people who are not so keen on downloading.

A brief list of updates is below. For the details and links, there’s the “continue reading” link.

  1. Forum and fanlisting milestones
  2. One more language in the GLOBAL action
  3. Two new sets of screencaps/stills, both from 2002
  4. Seven new magazines have been scanned: one in English, five in French, one in Japanese
  5. Two more magazine articles have been typed out
  6. Five more album reviews in the archive
  7. One new video, shown on TV less than a week ago
  8. Green Fest videos have been fixed

If you live in St. Louis in USA, don’t miss this

21:22:28 CET | Viewed 453 times | Comments Off

If you live in St. Louis in USA, do not miss to check out Todd Owyoung’s concert photography at the Suite 100; it will be up until February 10th.

As it was said in St. Louis Today, among the bands Owyoung photographed here are the Police, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Strokes, Polyphonic Spree, the Sounds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modern Day Zero, Tony Bennett and Common. A confetti-strewn photo of Polyphonic Spree’s Tim DeLaughter is particularly arresting, as are images of Eagles of Death Metal’s Dave Catching and Fabrizio Moretti of the Strokes.

To read the whole article about the exhibition, click here.
To see Todd’s photos from the RHCP show 363 days ago, click here. He’s taken a couple of stunning ones of John, of course, my favourite’d be the one with Gretch.

Vote for John!

6:06:45 CET | Viewed 632 times | 4 comments

NME is choosing the greatest guitarists ever. Go to this page to vote. They will be rotating photos of guitarists and letting you grade them on the scale from 1 to 10. At some point, a photo of John from early 2003 comes up and you can rate him as well.

You can check the current standings after each vote, on the list shown below the rating panel.

Let’s at least make sure John is in top five! The rivals are tough.

Invisible Movement’s GLOBAL action finally goes live!

23:51:52 CET | Viewed 827 times | 5 comments

After 3 months of preparations, Invisible Movement’s GLOBAL action has been through its first phase and yes, now it is online! Since there were problems reaching some translators, the action is open for whomever still wants to participate. Do not apply for Slovenian, Catalan, Persian, Estonian and Ukrainian, as translators for those languages have been found.

First of all, I would like to thank my friends Milica Radojlović and Rodrigo Mondragon Chaves for the amazing idea. Rodrigo was talking about translating John’s songs ever since early this year and Milica came up with how interesting would be to translate this particular song in September and that is how the GLOBAL action was born. But, in reality, the roots of the global action date to this very day, 07th December last year.

More on the project and the link to what it is? Click below; as, yet again, the text is long.

Yet another pop diva joke

13:25:30 CET | Viewed 481 times | Comments Off

Jane O’Donnell of The Monitor is wondering which other people born in Queens could help a fellow Queens-born pop diva and actress Lindsay Lohan…funny enough, John is one of those five and the reason is pretty funny, not as serious as the be-a-role-model-to-Britney thing from a couple of weeks ago.

3. Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante:
Mr. California spent his earliest years in Astoria, you know. And check out the names of the work he’s put out solo. Wow. Get him on board for an album title at the very least. (Nobody’s Angel is a snooze, and you know it.)
