I am not responsible for the grammar/ortography mistakes in this one, it’s not my fault that people don’t know their own native language properly. Oh yes, and go to this site for photos. The review doesn’t really mention one certain gentleman this site is about and there aren’t really many photos of him (just one of him play and one of his guitar…honestly), but I thought I’d post it here anyway…
Red Hot Chili Peppers premiered six tracks from their forthcoming album ‘Stadium Arcadium’ at a tiny show in London tonight (April 14). The band tore through a 90 minute set in front of an audience of just 300 lucky BBC Radio 1 competition winners at the Canvas club in Kings Cross.
Security was incredibly tight for the hottest ticket in town. A roadblock was in place some 100yards from the venue, stopping all except ticket holders getting close. Massive images of the new album were projected onto the exterior of the club.
Aside from the brand new tracks - ‘Slow’, ‘Charlie’, ‘Call Me Baby’, ’21st Century’, ‘Hard To Concentrate’ and forthcoming single ‘Dani California’ - the Chilis also ran through their extensive back catalogue, delighting devotees with tracks including ‘Scar Tissue’, ‘Other Side’ and ‘Give It Away’.
The band themselves said little from the stage. Wearing a black sleeveless t-shirt, frontman Anthony Keidis drank frequently from a massive white tea-cup between songs.
“Don’t read magazines and don’t watch commercials, they rot your brain - unless its our ipod commercial,” said bassist Flea.
The intimate gig was the band’s first in the UK since their 2004 shows, which included a residency at Hyde Park in London. The full concert will be broadcast in a special show on Radio 1 on Easter Monday (April 17) from 7pm.
The setlist was: Can’t Stop; Charlie; Scar Tissue; Throw Away Your Television; Dani California; Me And My Friends; Snow; Otherside; 21st Century; Don’t Forget Me; Tell Me Baby; Right On Time; Hard To Concentrate; By The Way; Soul To Squeeze; Give It Away

John was NOT in London tonight. There was no information that he cancelled his appearance coming from anywhere, until someone who was about to attend a concert said that he’s not there. Apparently, everything was unexpectedly cancelled.
I am sorry. I guess no one counted on this as possible outcome, unless the whole story was someone’s way of playing jokes on people.

This is what the ATP website issued this morning:
23rd November 2005
JOHN FRUSCIANTE NOT PLAYING
Depsite postings on the web that John Frusicante was set to appear at ATP with the Mars Volta we are sad to report that John is unable to attend the festival this December so we are just giving you a heads up in case you were expecting him.
I apologise for any speculation on my part (though I happen to know that other websites were speculating even more and almost panicking) and I do hope I did not hurt anyone’s feelings or made anyone’s work harder and more annoying than usual. As for the damage done, from what I know, the tickets were sold out long before those speculations.

If anyone wants to go, you better hurry up!
And please, pretty please, if you’re going, email me and tell me what was like. Have mercy on one retarded idiot who runs a website.

Yet again, for the second and maybe not only the second time this year (read on for further explanation), people in United Kingdom and those who can make it to there will be fortunate enough to see John Frusciante live, as one of the 5 people in Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’ s quintet. The quintet will be performing all over Europe during this month, but, unfortunately, probably since the rest of Europe is not attractive enough or due to his busy schedule, John won’t be performing with them.
According to an unknown source quotted on 4th Dimension fanclub website, John will be joining Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’s quintet on Dec 5th 2005 in London, at 93 Feet East, 150 Brick Lane. The doors will be opened at 7pm. That’s 19h for those who use comfortable 24-hour-time.
Among the other members of the quartet are Makoto Kawabata and Charles Hayward.
The other tour dates for the quartet which will 99,99% MOST LIKELY NOT INCLUDE JOHN are:
Nov 11 Rotterdam,NL @ Rotown
Nov 12 Antwerp, BE @ Antwerp Hof ter Loo
Nov 13 Amsterdam, NL @ Melkweg
Nov 14 Koln,GE @ Gebaude 9
Nov 15 Geneve, SW @ L’Usine
Nov 16 Zurich, SW @ Abart
Nov 17 Vienna, AU @ Szenewien
Nov 18 Ljubljana, SL @ Orto
Nov 19 Prague,CZ @ Matrix
Nov 20 Poznan, PO @ BlueNote
Nov 21 Berlin, GE @ Magnet Club
Nov 22 Hamburg, GE @ Weltbuehne
Nov 23 Groningen, NL @Vera
Nov 24 Kortrijk, BE @ De Kreun
Nov 25 London, UK @ TBA

Some of the very same performers will also perform with Michael Rother (as seen on his website, with the date 1st November 2005):
Michael Rother will appear in concert on 04 December 2005 at the “All Tomorrow’s Parties” festival in Camber Sands/England. The Mars Volta who curate this edition of ATP have invited Michael Rother to participate. He will be supported by special guests: the musicians Benjamin Curtis (The Secret Machines) and Josh Klinghoffer (John Frusciante/Beck/PJ Harvey) as well as by the audio-visual artists Thomas Beckmann and VJ Hedgemann. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala (The Mars Volta) will join Michael Rother for a jam at ATP.
Since it’s one day before the scheduled event and knowing how things were in the past, this MIGHT include John, even though he’s not on the list. He’ll most likely be at least their guest, supporting them from the audience if not also playing with them.
