Invisible Movement East Rutherford special part one!

23:03:58 CET | Viewed 924 times | 6 comments

So…it’s about time there was a special. Actually, don’t think anything ever was called special on this website…either way, it’s a special and I bet you will love it. It’s all media from the Tuesday’s show in East Rutherford and it’s all of high quality, all thanks to absolutely wonderful Marian. And what you see below is NOT everything, there will be more tomorrow, as I still need to edit it.

Under this link, you will find 640×480 video clips of Readymade, Snow and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. They are a bit bigger than the video files from some other shows, so please have patience when downloading. Dial-up users, you can use a program like DAP or FlashGet to pause and resume downloads if neccessary.

click me!

And, on the 2006 audio page, you will find the excellent audio of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (you might notice that new files from Ottawa, Quebec City and Boston are there too!) The audio of the other available songs and jams will be uploaded as soon as possible as well.

Please, be kind and show some love to Marian by commenting on this entry. Do not thank me, I just edited them and uploaded them, thank her:):):)

Reviews of the Toronto shows

23:54:48 CET | Viewed 592 times | Comments Off

Here are some reviews of the first RHCP show in Toronto on Monday, 25th September…apparently, that show was not something one can see every day and the people who attended it can be considered lucky.

Chart Attack said:

Welcome to the John Frusciante show, or a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert, rather. Not that I’m complaining about the long-haired guitar god’s complete command of the adoring sold-out crowd at the first of two shows at the ACC. Frusciante’s screaming guitar solos brought every RHCP song to a long crescendo. And his appearance with openers Mars Volta, plus a short solo version of Simon & Garfunkel’s “For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her” halfway through the set, pushed him to the forefront of the Chili Peppers spectacle, leaving even funkadelic frontman Anthony Kiedis somewhat in the dust.

Canoe — Jam! said:

There were some non-traditional moments courtesy of Frusciante, too.

He displayed his rarely showcased but attractive voice with a version of Simon & Garfunkel’s For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her, then in the encore added shortened versions of U2’s Sunday Bloody Sunday and Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit.

The Globe And Mail said:

A guitarist was shared, but that was it. Fans of John Frusciante are a hip batch, well aware that the Jesus look-alike with a Stratocaster would be pulling double duty, starring with both opening act Mars Volta and the headlining Red Hot Chili Peppers. (He is a central and confirmed member of the latter outfit). Going halves on Frusciante was as close as the two bands got. While the veteran California funk-rockers radiated their energy, the members of the avant-metal Mars Volta kept their mojo close. The eight-piece rockestra arrived with its motor running, taking no more than eight seconds to reach full, hard speed. The “songs” were epi instrumentals — kind of a free-form Deep Purple, with Frusciante (often on his knees) working the Jimi Hendrix-Eddie Hazel vein.

Also, there is this exciting video clip of John performing with The Mars Volta. I have to link it like this, since the owner did not respond to my email. All the credits go to him, as he recorded it. Click the link below to enjoy it (faster internet connection recommended because you don’t want to end up living like me: using 40 Kbps dial-up and pulling your own hair every ten seconds!)

Reviews of the Calgary and Edmonton shows

5:21:00 CET | Viewed 678 times | Comments Off

As usual, I am giving you best bits of reviews, plus a link to the full thing.

Calgary show

Canoe — Jam! said:

Despite the back-breaking posture, Flea laid waste to any doubters of him being the consummate and likely most influential bass player of his generation. From slapstick funk to powerhouse punk, this guy was up on stage doing exactly what he was born to do: Bring the funk. As was Frusciante, who despite offering blazing, funk/rock solos in almost every song, never seemed to hog the spotlight or overstay his welcome.

Edmonton show

Canoe — Jam! said:

A weak link last time, vocalist Anthony Kiedis was in top form last night. He hit his stride early, jumping in after an instrumental jam and leading the band in a slow-burning opening of Can’t Stop. The energy level kicked up a few notches in Dani California - the hit single from the band’s new double album, Stadium Arcadium - the crowd singing along to the entire thing. The song ended with a blistering guitar solo from John Frusciante, the Chilis’ secret weapon. There would be many more fantastic feats of fretboard fireworks from this guy last night, including the surprise of him taking the mic for a Simon & Garfunkel tune. Didn’t expect that.

Edmonton Journal said:

Three years after their last local appearance, the Red Hot Chili Peppers spiced up a chilly city with summer melodies, Flea’s hot ‘n’ funky bass lines, Anthony Kiedis’s half-rapped lyrics and John Frusciante’s rinse-cycle guitars and sighing, spine-tingling harmonies.

Pics from both shows coming soon, as I-M.net has a faithful friend in that area of the world…;)

An invite-only show, radio show and a real show…

18:59:21 CET | Viewed 511 times | Comments Off

RHCP had an invite-only show in LA, at the Troubadour (John played a solo show there in 2001, remember?) last night and people who got in are mostly band’s friends. If I have more info on it in future, you’ll surely hear about it…

However, the show on Saturday, held by KROQ-FM (106.7) wasn’t invite only. It was the anual Weenie Roast y Fiesta concert at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, and here are some nice excerpts from the review seen on Calendar live:

The Chili Peppers’ closing set reaffirmed the L.A. quartet’s status among rock’s elite. Songs from the new “Stadium Arcadium” double-CD package added maturity and musical range to the already-impressive repertoire without any loss of the rowdy, punk-funk spirit and showmanship that has been the trademark for more than 20 years.

And guitarist John Frusciante, ever more the marvel with his Hendrix-and-beyond flights, added a lovely, irony-free solo rendition of the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love.”

Also, according to the RHCP official site, there’s another show at the Toronto added to the list of upcoming ones. It will be held on September 26th at the Air Canada center. Tickets are already available for this event.

Review of the Irving Plaza show

23:15:42 CET | Viewed 440 times | Comments Off

(lifted from NY Post…)

May 10, 2006 — AT the Red Hot Chili Peppers super-exclusive, no-VIP gig Monday at Irving Plaza, the California funk punk icons played a roller-coaster show that mixed loads of killer songs with just enough filler to let you know they ain’t perfect.
The two-hour showcase served as a fan appreciation performance as well as a release party for the band’s double-disc “Stadium Arcadium,” which dropped yesterday.

As they have with recent shows, the band opened and closed the concert with powerful instrumental jams that featured shirtless bassist Flea, along with drummer Chad Smith and guitarist John Frusciante. Those opening riffs limbered the boys up for the night, and the encore jam decompressed the audience for the world outside of Irving Plaza.

In between those jazzy instrumental bookends, the Chili Peppers’ spicy program leaned heavily on new tunes and a few classics like “Californication” and the very well received “Scar Tissue,” with its seductive lyrics about a Kentucky girl in a push-up bra.

Frontman Anthony Kiedis was the center of the show. His risky fashion combo - a short-sleeve shirt and a waistcoat - showed off how buff he is; his vocal chords seemed equally exercised. In the past, fans often complained Kiedis had trouble delivering his vocals live with the same precision as on records. Not true at this show.

The guy sounded great for the whole concert. Which should have made him comfortable onstage, yet his angular body language was anything but relaxed.

Kiedis received some top vocal support from Frusciante, whose solid tenor reaches high notes just out of the lead singer’s range. Frusciante illustrated just how high he could get in a weird yet wonderful cover of the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love.” The band’s take was crisp, but the crowd didn’t know how to react to the odd choice.

They needed no instruction on cheering and clapping for the rest of the set, which was highlighted by “Dani California,” “21st Century” and “Snow” - all songs from the new album. Oldies including “Under the Bridge” and “Suck My Kiss” were conspicuously absent, but no doubt will surface when the band returns to New York in October for shows at Madison Square Garden.

If you can’t wait, check out their live performance in Times Square yesterday, which will be broadcast on cable’s Fuse channel at 9 p.m. on May 20.
