Web bands for supporting Ataxia reunion campaign!
4:48:50 CET | Viewed 177 times |
A couple of people asked what was the thing in the top left corner of the page…well, I made it, I was testing it out and, as of today, it’s another way of promotion the Ataxia reunion petition. It’s really simple and you don’t have to be the world’s greatest web designer to insert it onto your web page…
…it doesn’t even have to be a page, it can even be your Myspace profile!
So, that said, click here to get a web band for your website or here> to get a web band for your Myspace page, LiveJournal or any other place where Javascript is not allowed. It’s a piece of cake to put it up; either way it will take you only 30 seconds or so.
If you want to show off your brand spaning new web band in the Hey, look, I did it, too; style…well, reply to this news item. ^_^
And, some reminders:
- The most important thing is to sign the petition on the website itself. Supporting a cause on Myspace or Facebook is not enough.
- Please, supply your REAL name when signing. It’s a petition and your parents definitely did not name you Niandra LaDes.

An Ataxia Reunion Petition has been launched!
1:43:23 CET | Viewed 211 times |
The story started on 17th March, when Richee, an avid I-M.net reader since the very beginning has posted his question to Joe Lally. Surprisingly (or not), it encouraged other people to ask the same and, after the interview with Joe has been completed, the teams behind Invisible Movement, JKDN and Stonecoldbush.com came up with this original idea, and the ladies of JKDN, being the people known for reacting very fast, acquired a domain name and started gathering signatures.
So, seriously, what is this about? It’s about you and how much you would like to see Ataxia reunited and live, as 02nd February 2009 will mark the fifth anniversary of the first of their mini-shows. They have recorded only ten songs. It’s known how wide the imagination and the creative centre of the brains of John, Joe and Josh are, so why not nudge them to record some more music and play a show or a couple for us, preferably somewhere in Europe, as Europe never got any of Ataxia.
Yes, you heard me well. Click the banner below to go and sign the petition if you’d like to hear more from John, Joe and Josh and experience them live.

In addition to this, there’s a cause on Facebook as well; click here to join it and click here to join the group as well.
We can do it!

Exclusive news about the second Ataxia release
16:57:47 CET | Viewed 572 times |
Georgiy from Russia, a contributor of i-m.net, was very lucky to have a longish chat with Josh Klinghoffer, prior to the Sparks’ concert in Moscow at the end of February and Josh revealed a couple of things to him, all regarding the upcoming second Ataxia album!
The album will contain five songs, just like the first one did. John is singing the lead vocals on 4 of those songs, Josh on one. This time Joe Lally is not singing lead vocals.
The most-likely-to-be track order and song names:
- The Ethiopian Song
- The Empty’s Response
- Attention
- OLA
- The Soldier
So far, the release date and the name of the album are unknown…I-M.net is looking forward to getting more information from Georgiy regarding his conversation with Josh.

John Frusciante’s Second Coming
13:22:22 CET | Viewed 795 times |
This was kindly lifted from Undercover and written by Paul Cashmere.
The second album in John Frusciante’s mammoth five album series will be released on August 10. The second album in the series ‘Automatic Writing’ will be released under the name Ataxia. It comes just two months after ‘The Will To Death’ was released in June by the Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist. Ataxia is a collaboration with Josh Klinghoffer (Bicycle Theif) and Joe Lally (Fugazi). “I became friends with the members of Fugazi in Spring of 1999,” John said in a statement. “They were my favorite band in the world and I was going to see them play live as much as possible. I am lucky to have seen them as much as I have. They have had a hugely positive effect on me, both as a musician and as a person. Joe Lally moved to LA from DC in October of last year. Josh Klinghoffer and I had done two experimental electronic shows here in LA at the Knitting Factory, both of which Joe had attended. We scheduled two more shows, thinking we would play songs off the at that time unreleased “The Will To Death” and soon to be released “Shadows Collide With People.” We asked Joe if he would play bass for us, to which he said yes. But I started to realize, very much in the spirit of that period of time, that I was not interested in repeating things I had done, but wished to do things that were new”.
Ataxia is different to his previous solo work and his work with the Chili Peppers. “This record marks the first time I am extensively using the synthesizer in a way that has nothing to do with 80’s synthesizer sounds” he says. “I am using it to treat the vocals, the drums etc. as well as to make noise that has more to do with feedback and computer noise music (like Pita) than with anything people normally associate with the synthesizer. As I said in my bio for “The Will To Death,” I am drawing inspiration for how to approach my modular synthesizer from music that has no synthesizer, such as The Velvet Underground and Max Neuhaus, as well as synthesizer music that has no relationship to the way synths are used in pop music, such as Iaanis Xenakis and David Tudor”.
The third in the series of five records is DC EP, produced by Ian MacKaye. It will come out on September 14. Also this month, Red Hot Chili Peppers Live at Hyde Park featuring John will be released in territories outside the United States.
