Joe Lally interview is online!

21:16:43 CET | Viewed 298 times | 0 comments

Last week, I asked the visitors of Invisible Movement to submit a question to Joe Lally, the Fugazi and Ataxia bassist and a solo artist. Kez of JoshKlinghoffer.net had a lengthy conversation with Joe (”lengthy” as in “almost fifty minutes”) and it’s online now.

So, if you are interested in hearing how and when Joe, John and Josh met, who’s the original friend of Joe’s in RHCP, how the Ataxia’s songs were created, what Montreal is actually about, what the life after Fugazi, living in Italy and being a father are like… and much much more, have a listen or download the audio.

Also, one of Joe’s new songs, from his latest album, Nothing is Underrated, is a part of the interview. If you miss Fugazi and Ataxia, that will make your day.

Download the file here. It was already downloaded 415 times, it’s 44 Mbytes big and the format is mp3.

From what I could make out after the first listen, the people who were lucky to have their questions answered were Richee, Marcelo, Jay, Chris and Calyxto.

A huge thanks goes out to Kez, who is a real fighter and braver than 95% of world population, for having done this wonderful interview; and to Kat who has given a chance to Invisible Movement readers to participate in this. Please, do visit and support JKDN. Just like Invisible Movement, it’s a serious project and it’s no-nonsense, the only difference is that they’re not straight-edge and that they worship Apple (and should I mention that they do have sense of humour, unlike me?). Also, they will be doing podcasts once a week and you can subscribe to them via RSS.

Enjoy!

Green Fest DVD is online!

2:02:09 CET | Viewed 737 times | 6 comments

John at Green Fest, 2007Green Fest DVD, made by Hcrockso is now online on the FTP of Stone Cold Bush. You will have to registed on the website and follow these instructions to access the FTP. Once logged in, go to the DVD_RHCP directory, then to 2007-06-26 Indjija, Serbia and start downloading. Your download should take less than a day on 1 Mbps connection, about a day at 768 Kbps and such.

The DVD contains of the RTS broadcast, .avi files of which are available here, amateur videos of Throw Away Your Television, Snow ((Hey Oh)) and Don’t Forget Me, as well as a short documentary filmed about the event, with TV host interviewing fans and such. There’s no translation for that last part, but it’s been said many times that picture speaks more than words.

Credits: The mastermind Hcrockso made the DVD, mocked up some amazing interface to it and provided the official video footage in a good, good format. I sent in audio, close-up videos of Don’t Forget Me and TAYT, as well as the documentary; and the clip of Don’t Forget Me was filmed by Alena Šljivo, whom I’m apologising on this occasion, as I mixed her up with another person providing amateur videos and photographs from the same events as those she went to.

If you have any additional questions, ask here in comments or on any of these two site’s message boards. If you don’t and if you were there, start looking for yourselved on the video. If you don’t and you were not there…well, this DVD will make you feel like you’re a part of the event, especially during the unrepeatably good version of Higher Ground, extra-gentle and sad SOS and, of course, the boombastic, raw show intro. Enjoy!

Better-quality files and more updates, Sunday-style

23:40:06 CET | Viewed 782 times | 1 comment

…on a Monday.

First of all, all the Green Fest videos have been re-uploaded, with the highest possible bitrate a .wmv file could have (2.1 Mbps) and in 640×480 resolution; so feel free to re-download them if you like it big. The links for iPod-complatible files have been fixed, thanks to Richard and Steven who pointed me out there were mistakes with some of them. If you’re having problems with videos and if they do not download completely, that is because the server is sometimes moody, I’d advice you to use something that can resume a download and download only one file at one time. That gives everyone equal chance to complete their downloads properly, so please, think of others.

Because of holidays here, enormous interest and other factors, the current playlist will stay on for one more week. There are already ideas for the one I’ll put up on 15th January, but if you have anything to suggest, feel free to.

So, this week, the new things, apart from the huge fat video special are…

  1. One set of screencaps fixed, a new one added.
  2. More magazine scans, from 2004, 2006 and 2007
  3. Two traditional art pieces and one wallpaper
  4. One more audio file of a cover song from 2001

More on Green Fest TV and amateur media!

10:47:38 CET | Viewed 329 times | Comments Off

Many people who have seen the videos from Green Fest have requested full versions of the three non-broadcasted songs. Unfortunately, I have not come accross a decent amateur video of Snow ((Hey Oh)) and Throw Away Your Television (still looking, though…I know many people who went to the show and also, my computer is like a war sight); but the good news is that Sascha, one of friends went to the show with me, recorded the whole of Don’t Forget Me. Head over to the amateur videos page and download it.

iPod-compatible versions of all Green Fest TV clips are online. I first made them for my iPod, but having seen how many people were interested in the SOS one, I converted everything else as well and you can now download them from the very same page you got the .wmvs from. If you don’t know how to put them on your iPod or other mp4-compatible device, I have written a quick tutorial on how to do it on the Windows platform, using a 5th or 6th generation iPod. I have no idea how this is done on a Mac or using one of the distributions of Linux, so for such purpose you will have to seek help someplace else…but if any kind soul wants to submit a tutorial on this, you’re welcome.

For people who prefer the YouTube sort of interaction with comments etc, for now, I have uploaded all the video files to my account there as well, here is the playlist. Just do have in mind that YouTube’s compression makes the files ashamed of what they turned into, so the best solution is always to download the .wmv ones to your computer. OK?

Now, some asked if there would be audio and a DVD….yes, there will be both ^_^

Re:audio - A nice guy named Zak is making the audio bootleg and it’s almost done. Once again, I am trying to help its completing by finding TAYT and Snow.

Re: video - My friend and a long-term site contributor, known to people under the name hcrockso and known to friends as Robert is making a DVD of this great performance, based on the RTS recording; with some extras. He expects to have it done by sometime next week and, from what I know, the nice people from Stone Cold Bush will host it. I am contributing to this project as well and, from what I’ve seen of Robert’s previous work in the media field, it’s going to be a really, really good one. So, it’s worth the wait.

Also, I was surprised when some people asked for my wishlist and date of birth! Thanks for being nice. However, I do not have a wishlist, sorry….but, since you guys insist, I do not have any of the vinyls nor the two posters from the official site either and I was born on 03rd March and am turning 25 this year. I can’t give out other details in public, so if you were those who asked, you’ll have to email me. For local people…volim Smilies Jogging! Divan dezert…mmmda.

Green Fest videos from TV

6:09:15 CET | Viewed 1,255 times | 8 comments

Once again, happy New year 2008! Срећна Нова година! / Srećna Nova godina! ^_^

So…RHCP’s set at Green Fest was on TV and I managed to capture everything with my TV card. Until one of those nice people who have better signal manages to upload the files, these’ll do. Please, note that three songs were not shown on TV, due to reasons stated six months ago: Throw Away Your Television, Snow ((Hey Oh)) and, unfortunately, Don’t Forget Me, which was great even despite the obvious problems.

The direction of the show was, as predicted, supreme. People who filmed really strange and scary things in the past did a great job filming “only” a huge rock concert. The best out of these videos is SOS, as whoever did the montage made a perfect music-video-style combination of John singing the ABBA’s ballad and some of his best guitar playing moments in slow motion; blending with some people’s huge banner with John, we love you written on it at the very end. I was in tears re-living this moment, I hope it touches people who have not actually been down there in the audience as well.

And here is that beautiful video, it simply has to be on the front page, on its own:

Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.

To download the files in .wmv format (14 files, 230 Mb total) and an additional, iPod-compatible .mp4 file of SOS, go here.
To watch the show without downloading, look at the weekly playlist.
As soon as this is available in better format, I will update the files.

Click on the link below to see what’s on the list and what’s not.

Vpro documentary on RHCP, then and now

23:37:18 CET | Viewed 1,195 times | 2 comments

(as posted by pepperina on the official BBS)

On 28th June 2007, Dutch channel 3 has shown a documentary made by Bram van Splunteren who also made the legendary documentary about John, and who did a lot of interviews and visits with the Peppers in their early years. It’s a great thing to watch, so here you go:

Watch it at this URL!

I am trying to find it and extract the interesting bits for you.

John at a MusicaRes event with Josh and Dave Gahan!

16:35:14 CET | Viewed 1,906 times | 1 comment

I was getting news on this before, but I didn’t know if I should put it online or not, as it seemed to be bogus, but…looks like it’s true. John will perform at a MusicaRes event tomorrow, at the Henry Fonda Theatre.

On this page you will find a video clip where he’s rehearsing with Victor Indrizzo, Vincent Jones, Martyn LeNoble, Josh Klinghoffer and Dave Gahan. The “band” is apparently Gahan’s All Star Band. You will need QuickTime player to watch it.

Here’s a sneak preview:
MusicaRes rehearsal

Obviously, the actual event, although not listed on the MusicaRes site, is taking place later today.
