Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitarist cooks up lukewarm fourth solo outing.

Frusciante infamously recorded his second solo album, Smile From The Streets You Gold, as a means of bankrolling his heroin habit. He may now have cleaned up but, at over an hour long, this latest excursion suffers from the same self-indulgent streak that saw him take so many drugs that most of his teeth fell out. The 18 songs meander aimlessly through folk to classic rock and ambient soundscaping without ever seeming sure of their destination. Though undoubtedly a guitarist of rare talent, his rudimentary songwriting skills and questionable quality control render this an exasperating experience.
