Anthony Keidis, your frontman duties are NOT threatened in the least by your guitarist John. Not only is his pitch and range less than stellar, but, well, he's not the nicest looking guy in the world. Still, you'd better keep him kicking around the band because this guy's got a lot to offer. One thinks whether Californication would've been as big of a hit if Frusciante hadn't come back on board. His lyrical insights and musical talents are something to be reckoned with. To Record Only Water For Ten Days is Frusciante's experiences and revelations while on and getting off of heroin. The spiritual and mental battles that he had are brought to light so nakedly that you'll be wishing you never ever touch that dirty little drug. Though he gets a wee bit nasaly and yelpish on certain songs, "Going Inside" and "Fallout" are standouts for their honest lyricism and creepy-assed instrumentation.
