The Empyrean and John’s blog - It can’t get more official than this!

One of the people from Record Collection Music just passed me this and I do hope that it will clear up the hype generated within the past couple of hours. So, read this carefully! I think this is the best news we'd read all year and a proof that The Empyrean, the album beyond physical existence, is REAL. Feel free to comment here if you like, as mr. himself is obviously not ready yet for comments. People from his record company DO read this (doubt he does, though, so don't leave OMG MARRY MEH messages and such). And if you think someone put something in your water, they didn't. John's blogging about music theory on his official website. And he seems to be interested in connecting to people.

So...

The Empyrean, John's newest record, features Flea, Josh, Johnny Marr, The Sonus Quartet and The New Dimension Singers. It will be released worldwide on January 20th 2009 via Record Collection.

John has decided to pull down the old website and create a direct conduit to communicate with his friends and his fans. While this blog format is new to John, he is very intent on stripping down the channels of communication by eliminating the walls and safeguards that have forever separated him from the millions of people all over the world who have supported his musical efforts. It is for this reason that John decided to create a blog. In the coming months you can expect John to update this blog periodically with information about the release of the Empyrean as well as random thoughts about life and music. John will also use this blog to post various forms of artwork including unreleased tracks and demos.

John will be launching a new web store sometime next month which will be accessible via johnfrusciante.com and recordcollectionmusic.com. All of his records will be available through the store including some new T-shirt designs.

It was posted, like, two and a half hours ago, I’m in his time zone. Don’t anybody freak out or nothin’.

  3. Aquilo says:

Woo! Guitar lessons from the best guitarist ever! But honestly, I am glad to have that site up, I have been checking it daily to see if there was content on it or not. Also, did anyone notice that on the right side there is a link that says “The Empyrean”? Guess that proves the mystery doesn’t it?

  4. Lara says:

Is that really John? Are we certain that someone didn’t hack into his url? I just find it strange that John would write a blog… Hmmm…

  5. fruscianda says:

    I’m so excited!

  6. harrz says:

  7. Caroline says:

This is soooooooooo great !!!
Thank you so much Iva !!

I definitely don’t find it strange that John prefers to correspond to this fans by Blogging. He even explains himself his reasons, which are to me, more than good !

Moreover He’s not the first musician to do it, Sean Lennon also has a French Blog: http://musique.fluctuat.net/sean-lennon/,

So I really don’t think that it’s someone else or a fake !

This is just an original way to communicate, without any commercials or things of this kind, which is more than great !!!!!

I’m glad that John made this !!!!

The only thing which bothers me is that I can’t try the exercise right now as my neighboors certainly wouldn’t be happy….

But generally this is fantastic news I truely cannot wait for January 20th.

  20. John4Eva says:

(Btw, bless the day I put you on my RSS feed. Mm… feeeeed!)

  21. the sky behind your head says:

I’m surprised, surprised, surprised … Can’t really say at the moment how it strikes me, ’cause I’m over the years not usual, except some special mails, to john doing such a direct public contact to his listeners.

I’m curious about the new record, it was a long time because of beeing familiar with the releases 2003/04/05 …; it will be very important to me … anyways …

love john frusciante, always on my, your side; forever

  22. the sky behind your head says:

    and let’s bless iva! :)

  23. Flo says:

wow! John blogging is not what I ever expected to see! but it’s fantastic, can’t wait to read what he has to say over time. And I’m now officially counting down until Jan 20….. Johnny Marr - cool! that makes this old Smiths fan very happy :)

  24. Fran says:

  27. leakeg says:

sounds like john might have been experimenting with time signatures for this new album. Awesome.
This blog was such a great idea.

  28. leakeg says:

oh yeah and that exercise is so goddamn hard!!

  29. Ryan Chapman says:

This has made me very happy!

  30. irondethpepper sauce says:

    that made my day

  31. frujo says:

I am totally amazed. That is incredible. Something I have really dreamed about. As I saw a great blogging examples of Moby and Brian May I always thought that John type posts from time to time too.
This John’s blog may become a great way to comunicate with him. I really hope John wouldn’t lose enthusiasm towards his blog.

Also I think that it would be great to turn comments on and change design. Anyhow even without that everything is very cool.

Exercise is damn tricky I must admit. But what I like is that is not a n00b stuff, that is something a really great master can share with those who are willing to know some secrets of his technique. Pretty cool and I can’t wait for more.

And thank you very much, Iva for info. I can’t remember the last time I was at John’s site, so I wouldn’t find the changes without your help.

  32. Nadia says:

That was amazing. No wonder the man is a genius. Brilliant lesson.

  33. Rileyroxx says:

This just serves to get me more excited about the man. I can’t wait, i loved the explanation of the album title (which i found on this site too - thanks Iva) and to finally be able to get an insight into John Frusciante on a regular basis is going to be fantastic.

Keep up the good work Iva, my thanks go out to you.

  34. nirvana says:

this is such a great piece of news, Iva! i think the new year can’t start in a better way  can’t wait to hear the new album :!:

  35. Matt says:

    this is awesome

    Thank you, Iva!!!

  42. :::::::::: says:

Just wondering… Today I’ve red that 20th January is a constant date of US president inauguration.. Ofcourse it might be just a coincidense..but I’m confused a bit. Maybe it has some meaning too, and date of release isn’t accidental..

  43. Ivana says:

Congratulations to you, Iva! That is all I can say.
P.S. Naporni rad se urodio plodom.

  44. Daniel B says:

Is the blog definitely johns own blog or could it potentially be an over-obsessive fan pretending to be him??

  45. Iva says:

His record company wrote everything I posted here. They confirmed it’s him, a relative of his confirmed it’s him as well. And his record company owns the domain, so anything else would be totally illogical. Plus, if such a thing happened, there wouldn’t be news about this everywhere around the internet after a slight delay. Right?

  46. bobby says:

yesturday, like any other day, I was listening to John music. specifically will to death. I was listening to the chords, and they were melting me like never before. I really told myself that I wanted to do this, play music that I can feel in my soul. I was literary recreating the song becasue I felt that on the same dimension as the song. It was amazing. I have tried learning guitar but yesterday I made a self commitment. I want to do something usefull, and making this kind of music would be the greatest way i could ever imagine it. So today I see that john is doing this. cant wait for the album and god bless you all. take time to really listen to the music and think about how it makes you feel. you’ll see what I mean. peace

  47. theotherfiona says:

I am so happy that we are getting ‘direct access’ to John. It is so nice that he is willing to do that. But then I suppose what he wants to say won’t be twisted by interviewers/publications, etc so that’s good.

I’m really looking forward to see if Smile From The Streets You Hold is put up on the Record Collection store. It’s the only out standing JF album in my collection and I’m not willing to pay silly money to someone on e-bay for it!

I’ve just read the first ever blog from JF (he he!!!) and the funniest thing, I’m doing the same kinda thing in my guitar class at the moment, except I’m counting 1, 2, 3, 4and, 1and and then changing chord.

It’s interesting how he can so easily bring it round to how we should all respect one another and take joy out of our differences as they enrich our lives. It brings to mind the e-mail that he sent out after the gig when people were booing whatshisname at one of their gigs last year.

I’m off to do my homework and await JF Blog Mark 2!

  48. Mira says:

I am happy to see John’s blog. Not that I understand music theory. Sure, I’d love to leave a comment, but I guess he doesn’t want THAT much attention.

And I’m happy to learn that this website was 100% right about the new album. Right from the start.

  49. I think John should play at Coachella this year… it’s major indie/rock festival in the LA area, and I’m pretty sure John has a big following in Los Angeles, considering it’s one of the more indie cities in the US. It would be a great way to promote the new album to fresh indie ears that would most likely be accepting of John’s style of music.

  50. Anne says:

Iva wrote it herself that both someone from Record Collection and someone close to him have confirmed this information. And I think it is something that is unexpected, but reasonable for John to want to do. He has always wanted to be closer to his fans, I believe, and this is a truly remarkable way for him to do it.

  51. Anne says:

I can’t believe it still. This makes me so incredibly happy. I am so glad that he is sharing himself with us this way.

  52. Niek says:

 I am soo happy with this news  John brings soo much love in this world with his music.

  53. Nancy says:

I am blissfully happy that John is communicating with us! We are so lucky and blessed. And my lucky number is 4! Thanks John, love you to death

  54. Nancy says:

It is so interesting to me, I have been listening to John so much lately and sending him little mental thank yous. I’m sure you all do much the same, maybe he is picking up on all of our positive good will thoughts. I keep listening to his ATP concert and hope so much to see him do his own material some day. Maybe the time is coming soon!

  55. Daniel Villanueva says:

Awesome! John is such an inspiration man. Big ups brethren John. InI \m/ aloha!

  59. This is John’s exercise - for non musicians who might find it difficult:
sit down and tap your right (or left ) foot twice then your left foot (also twice), so the feets is doing yo’ four, than count five or seven or 101 over it. If u make it a bit of a dance move you will feel that funky _One_ (of the four) connect your more spiritual singing to your more sensual feet-a-slapperea (excuse my silly description).

    joy happy
    ,love .
