Heads-up on new post on John’s blog: Imrael
John has made a lengthy new blog post titled Imrael (it would be nice to know what that is, in fact, it would be great ^_^); some 20-ish minutes ago.
I think it's very uplifting and a good way to make one smile on an exhausting hump day. And to make one warm. Both literally and otherwise.

Hey, I found something like this:
IMRAEL
of the Seraphim,
a Demon Hunter
I found something, on Deviant art, someone did a caracther sketch, its name was Imrael. and as the person before me said, under the artwork it said “Imrael, of the seraphim, a demon hunter”
the seraphim had to do with something in hebrew, like the “cathegory of angels” in hebrew.
under the artwork it also said “from the book of MAR/XOR”
when i googled it it came up with this site: http://www.mxpedia.com/
I read it all and it was very interesting.
Truly has got “the empyrean”-feel to it! dont ya think?
wow that blog was long but very interesting. i tried to find out what imrael means and all i know is that the closest word i found was israel. but if you break the word like we do in hebrew it has many meanings like: mara in arabic is something that was a long time ago, or in hebrew mara el means to disobey to god. this interpetation was written basically according the word meaning of israel. mara is also the lord of darkness or sences in budhissm. mara is also means the imaging of obsticals in practicing to a demon or a precher. thats all i know.
i’m not sure i understand why he keeps repeating himself over and over again in those blog entries.
Maybe the same reason there’s the repetition on Dark/Light. Could be an unconscious thing? It seems John’s journey is very much contained inwards and that he’s not externalised any of his practice yet.
Guys (OK, mostly girls), regardless of this having anything to do with the word Imrael or not: seraphims/serafims also exist in Christianity. In Christianity, they’re the order of angels closest to God, in the first sphere; and they’re slightly different from Hebrew seraphims, as Hebrew seraphims were not taking human-like appearance at first. Of course, that’s all an Tanakh/old testament link. Just thought I’d clear that up.
Also, messiahs in almost all religions actually represent SUN and their birth dates are usually related to the days where the sun is lowerst in the sky (so it looks as if it literally descended to Earth). So, Sun is the universal higher power. Of course, John could be using it as a metaphore in order to make the story more vague or something that only his own heart and soul can comprehend; but I am basically saying that, if he paints over the experience that’s obviously private and not for sharing and if he uses an universal symbol to describe the journey in the story, then it’s equally appealing to people of, if any, religion or belief.
@Frankie: I would agree with Chris to a certain extent (second part of the sentence), as well as share a bit of my own experience: if you’re a writer, you often have moments when you feel uncomfortable with how you’re describing something intimate, private…especially when it’s that powerful.
I took it simply as I am real.
Yeah, I would love to hear John explain what he meant by Imrael because it can mean different things to each person even if the definition of the word is the same. It slightly changes depending on the way you use it or the way you relate it to a certain text (to a post, in John’s case).
I agree. I’d love to hear his explanation.
I must be (slightly) dyslexic. Now… I’m not sure what to think about “Imrael”.
At first I thought it was “Ishmael”
Is there something John wants to tell us?
On the other hand… As much as I’d love to hear the story behind it, I do believe that everybody should have their own interpretation. This is important. Different people will have their individual reading of the text (or music, or… anything, really). And there’s no good or bad, right or wrong interpretation, there’s no right or wrong reading.
But!- As much as I want to stick to this philosophy (and I do, most of the time), I simply can not forget about the fact that HE is the author and I’d love to know what he thinks about it.
So…
Dear John,
Could you please explain what you meant by that?
Beautiful post by JF.
When I first read the title “Imrael” I heard John singing “I am unreachable” in my head.
I also wonder what this means. It has an ending many angels’ names have.
rael is the character peter gabrial plays in “lamb lies down on broadway”
I’ve read the John Frusciante post and I had so much ideas about what imrael is and I even publish something talking about my “understanding” about it.

Ps: all this is just my thinking doesn’t reflect what really means imrael!
A couple of thoughts, for what they’re worth.
The Raelians are a UFO-based cult notable for their liberal attitudes towards sexuality. The Raelian cult holds that the creators of life on earth are a group of extraterrestrial beings known as the Elohim who have had extensive psychic contact with humanity over the aeons, generally misinterpreted as coming either from gods or angels.

And in a somewhat unrelated link, Rael was the title of an uncompleted rock opera Pete Townshend had begun writing around the time of The Who Sell Out, many of the musical themes of which were repurposed for Tommy. “Rael” and “Rael 2″ are available on the remastered double cd version of The Who Sell Out, and the story seems to have involved a sea-captain who becomes involved in a crusade out of concern that “the Red Chins in their millions / Will overspill their borders / And chaos then will reign in our Rael!”, Rael being “the womb of my religion / To me the center of the Earth.” He goes ashore, and his crew takes this opportunity to mutiny and sail off with his ship, leaving him stranded.
“Rael 2″ seems to be an epilogue at the end of whatever adventures transpire from there on in, and the lyrics are intriguing:
What I see is all I’ve seen,
In my sweetest sleep in dreams,
What I feel is all I’ve felt,
When by newborn babes I’ve knelt,
What I know now is all I’ve known,
That has been good while I have grown,
Bless the thoughts that made me sail
And the God who made Rael.
Very reminiscent of William Blake, actually, and it implies the captain has had some kind of spiritual awakening as a result of whatever happened in the interim between the two pieces. And it’s also extremely similar in spirit to a lot of John’s lyrics on this album.
In this blog post, John notes that he’s spent a lot of time analyzing rock lyrics for clues to try and help him comprehend his own spiritual experiences, saying a lot of lyricists write about these things, whether they know they are doing so or not. Well, Townshend of all people I imagine is very conscious of the spiritual intent behind his lyrics, and these ones in particular, and what’s interesting is that there’s that root word again — Rael — and Townshend has linked it to Israel, as obviously so have the Raelians (given that they borrow the Hebrew term Elohim to describe the aliens they believe have been mistakenly taken for gods by humans and who they believe created life on earth.)
Somewhere between these two ideas I imagine lies the hub of what John’s talking about here.
I’m surprised that no one thought of anagrams yet. Like, MAILER, REALM I, RAIL ME, OR LIAR ME.

i took it as Im Rael, maybe the name of a second character in his head. To me it sorta gave off a schizophrenic vibe, but in a good way (if that’s possible)
Personally reckon this could easily be something political… Imrael/Israel anyone? Also just started listening to the Empyrean album sounds good so far
IM REAL
