Robert Plant isn’t really fond of RHCP

23:01:58 CET | Viewed 1,016 times |

As per Showbizspy:

Music legend Robert Plant (of Led Zeppelin fame) doesn’t take kindly to new music - and isn’t scared to make his feelings known. The aging rock veteran, 59, was heard rubbishing critically acclaimed rock acts Radiohead and the Red Hot Chili Peppers - and then demanded to hear Captain Beefheart instead. A source said: “He was drinking with a woman and didn’t like the choice of tunes playing.

“Radiohead was on and he started complaining. He said, ‘What’s this rhyming c**p?’

“The staff were obviously keen to please him so they changed the music. They put on the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who they thought might be more up his street. But he didn’t like their stuff either and said it was like a ‘nursery rhyme.’ He then said he wanted to listen to Captain Beefheart.”

When Zeppelin reunited at London’s O2 arena last year, it won them a whole generation of new fans - but it seems Plant doesn’t have much time for modern-day music heroes. The source added to British newspaper The Sun: “Radiohead and the Chilis are two of the biggest and best groups in the world. But it seems they don’t compare to Beefheart in Plant’s mind.”

Captain Beefheart’s best-known album was 1969’s Trout Mask Replica, considered a “masterpiece” by fans.

Maggy, you’re definitely right about the impact of SA singles on a chili peppers’ music debutant listener cause those are the worst selection of singles in the history of the band,a bunch of pop-like kind of songs such as Hump De Bump or Tell Me Baby that do not represent the true red hot music they have offered throughout all these years.none of them except for Dani California and Desecration Smile were worth being released as singles and it’s a wonder that marvelous songs such as Lately or Funnyface didn’t even make it to the main tracklist of the album…i have said it numerously and i will never get sick of it:SINGLES RELEASED OFF THE STADIUM ARCADIUM WERE A DISASTER ,A FAILURE FOR THE RHCP.

I’m disappointed that Robert hasn’t taken the time to appreciate them for all the music they’ve done, he probably said that after just hearing a couple of singles (which is probably also what was played for him at the bar).

I would be really unsurprised if Robert just has a huge ego and has to shit on everything he doesn’t approve of, because he can. And he was a man of the seventies. It must be so depressing for him to see modern music turn into what it has, and if all I had heard from the Chilis were the singles off SA, I don’t know if I’d think highly of them.

I agree with what Wei-Wei said too.

Led Zeppelin was an incredible band. But I credit that more to Jimmy Page anyway. Robert can think whatever he wants but that doesn’t mean that he has the ultimate voice.

Page acted in a way a spoiled 11 year old would act. He seems to have adapted an arrogant rock star persona in that one incident.

As opposed to John who is a humble “rock star”

Okay, so the way Robert Plant expressed his opinion wasn’t the nicest and most respectful one. But I still agree with David, it doesn’t make sense hating someone because his music taste isn’t similar to yours. That’s just plain stupid. Although again, Plant didn’t gain any of my respect by calling the Peppers “nursery rhyme”. There are ways to let the staff know you’d like some other music without offending the artist, you know…

You are totally right, Emily!

But Jeremy, please excuse me, but do you notice how stupid your comments are?
Only because he doesn’t like the music the Peppers and Radiohead make, you slight him??? As I said, everyone has the right do like or dislike the music of different bands and that doesn’t make a person a bad person. Sure, it’s sad that the singer of one of my favorite bands doesn’t like another favorite band of mine, but as some people of you said: Who cares?

By the way, Led Zepplin is one of the bands that most people first bring into a relationship to Rock Music, so you can’t deny that he is a legend…

So, please don’t offend him and respect his and other people’s taste of music.

Excuse me if my english isn’t very good!

John himself is a longtime fan of Captain Beefhear( he named “mascara” after a member of the “magic band,” Mascara Snake. A lot of artists get frustrated by the fact that their favorite bands never get the admiration that they think they deserve!

This is rubbish…who the hell he thinks he is?…he was a member of a legendary band but not a legend personally….how dare he underestimates the greatest contemporary bands who’ve dominated the world of music during the past 2 decades in Alternative Rock and Funk Rock genres respectively…it seems as if he is still stuck in 60s and that he hasn’t evolved through the years….Red Hot Chili Peppers have been the masters of rock particularly eversince John has joined and rejoined them and also there’s no need to mention the artistic virtuoso and creative style of the world’s number 1 alternative band,Radiohead….let that guy listen to the putrid stuff he’d asked for…who cares?

Fuck Robert Plant and everyone who looks like him. Least important part of an overrated band. Good band, but nowhere near as great as people make them out to be. “Since I’ve Been Loving You” was a brillant piece of music, but other than that and a few gems, I don’t get what’s so great.

P.S. Fuck Robert Plant.

No, I had all of their albums at one point, but other than a few shining moments on the albums (not necessarily the singles mind you) they weren’t that good. I’d rate OK Computer above Led Zeppelin 4 any day. Same goes for By the Way, better than Physical Graffiti.

PS Fuck Robert Plant and his entire repertoire.

“that radiohead”

in which century do you live, girl, and did ya go to school at all? plant sure is good but he’s obviously out of time and place… music changes, ya know?
also, john is a member of rhcp and the one writing the most of their music, so why wouldn’t there be a connection. just my two cents…
