Californication or Clowniforication/Califrownication*?

21:08:44 CET | Viewed 947 times |

Since the debate on Californication is getting pretty tough, I thought a poll on that would be suitable. You have time until the evening of 01st December to vote. If you pick the third option, please do give your input by commenting on this news item. Arguments are OK, as long as you’re keeping them polite and civilised! There’s also a forum topic about this. Sooo, let’s sum it with a simple question: what is your opinion on the Californication lawsuit?

With so many rumours about the new solo album, what are your expectations?

Also, I have noticed that many people come here wondering if John actually had a say in this or not. Sorry, but I doubt anyone knows the answer to that! If you ask RHCP’s staff, doubt they’d know either.

*Credits for the madeup words in the title go to Jo and Ouis.

I am appalled that the Chili Peppers are filing a lawsuit. Instead of being proud that this homage was given to them by showing how integrated they are in LA/California culture, they (Anthony Kiedis!) feel that they’ve been robbed of their belongings, and money!

Californication is not a trademarked copyrighted word. This unfortunately isn’t much different than Paris Hilton filing a lawsuit against i-don’t-know-who because she feels that the expression “that’s hot” is hers by copyright and no one else’s. Shame on all of them.

I also don’t think that it was a PR stunt. I agree with Amy that they probably didn’t want to be associated w/ the show. And they were never asked if that name could be used. I also agree they probably didn’t intend this to get as much attention as it’s gotten. And it’s seems like the Chili Peppers are not gaining anything by this kind of attention.

I don’t think its a PR stunt but nor do I think its completely called for. I just think that they are upset that the name of their song has been put to something that they don’t believe in and have done something about it. They don’t want to affiliate themselves with such lifestyles so have made the point to stop the show associating with them, its just a shame it has turned into a huge media debate as Im sure thats never what was intended
